5 month update

Today Anya hit the 5 month mark!

March was a fairly quiet month for Anya and the rest of the family, but here are some highlites:
  • Anya took part in a study at Children's Hospital. It is tracking the development of "normal" children versus children with plagiocephaly (misshapen heads). Anya was in the normal group. They will be tracking her development over the next 3 years. The first round conisisted of various tests - dealing with objects, rolling over, etc. and she did fine for the most part. She failed at the algebra section of the testing, though. Of course, we've appropriately disciplined her, so she'll hopefully do better next time.
  • I gave notice at my job. Soon I'll be a full-time mom. While I really like my job, I hate leaving Anya during the day. So I'm going to take the next couple of [to-be-determined]s to focus on raising her. I'm going to miss my job and co-workers, but it feels like the right decision. And as "they" say, you can always get a job, but you can't get that first year of your child's life back.
  • Anya's first Easter was very busy. In the morning, we all went to a brunch/egg hunt at our friends, Hilary & Rhy's, house. Anya got lots of attention and had a good time. In the afternoon, we all went to Grandma & Grandpa L's and joined the rest of the Scheuer clan for a big dinner. Again, Anya got lots of attention and had a good time. Sadly, the Easter Bunny skipped Anya's house this year. She cried of course, but we assured her that it was a bureaucratic mistake and next year she'll get twice the loot.
Anya has made lots of progress developmentally, especially in this last week. Notables:
  • She is now turning for/grabbing objects that are on the ground near her, instead of objects that are just in front of her
  • She sat unassisted for about 4 minutes. A few other times have lasted about a minute, but mostly she sits for a few seconds and then teeters over. I think she'll be sitting unassisted regularly by 6 months
  • She can predict a pattern when I play peek-a-boo with her. She will turn her head to (correctly) anticipate where I'll pop up next.
  • More "talking". Her babbling is getting more and more complex. When she complains, she no longer just cries...it's usually filled with "na-nah-mah-ya" sounds. And speaking of complaining, she is doing so right now, so I better go and get her.
