Halloween and Birthday Party

We survived both Halloween and Anya's first slumber party.

As has been the custom for the last few years, Anya waited impatiently for October 1 to finally arrive, so she could take out all the Halloween decorations and transform the front yard into a spooky, cobweb-filled graveyard. Usually, we add one new decoration per year. Last year was the addition of an LED projector, where we projected Halloween scenes through the window. This year, Chris, our neighbor, and the kids created the Haunted Alley. It was their first go at it and I'd say it was a huge success. Chris/Anya strung up lights, sheeting, and some decorations, and we used the projector to show spooky scenes through our alley gateway.

The neighbor/kids a few houses down built an impressive Haunted Maze. Anya and the kids worked in it to scare trick-or-treaters as they came through (or only slightly spook the little kids).

We had a few school families/friends over for a pre-funk. Afterwards, the adults followed behind our trick-or-treating kids with a wagon full of adult libations. This proved to be very popular with other parents, as we were kind enough to share. A fun night for sure. More neighbors are interested in helping out with the alley project next year and making it bigger and better. And we have plans to improve the Booze Wagon too.

Oh yeah. Anya dressed up as Elizabeth Swan (pirate version) from Pirates of the Caribbean

Five days later, we hosted Anya's first slumber party. She invited all the girls in her class, plus Eva and Eloise. Honestly, it was pretty great. We fed them pizza, had a glowstick dance party in the basement, part of a movie until they played their favorite game, Ghost-Ghost and ran around. They eventually all fell asleep and got more sleep than I expected they might. Then a big pancake breakfast, more movie, and a silly string fight in the snowy front yard. The girls were well-behaved and seemed to have a blast. I would host one of these again, even with that many kids.
